Skillset Group is seeking an experienced Sales Engineer / Estimator located in the Santa Fe Springs, CA area.  This individual will prepare estimates and proposals for custom industrial equipment projects. This role works directly with customers to understand project requirements, review drawings, develop labor and material estimates, and coordinate with Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to deliver accurate, competitive quotations. Approximately 70% of the role is focused on responding to customer inquiries, preparing quotations, and managing existing opportunities, while 30% is dedicated to business development and sales activities. The ideal candidate has strong estimating experience in a manufacturing environment, excellent blueprint reading skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while building long-term customer relationships.   This is a DIRECT HIRE OPPORTUNITY on 1st shift.  Please send your resume to rmills@skillsetgroup.com.


Sales Engineer / Estimator

DIRECT HIRE OPPORTUNITY!!

Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA

Salary: $70-80k/yr. (green candidates), $90-130k/yr + Performance Bonus

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Expected operating Hours: 50 hrs. (depended on workflow)


Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience preparing cost estimates for custom manufacturing or engineered products 
  • Background quoting fabricated equipment such as tanks, piping systems, skids, pressure vessels, or similar industrial assemblies 
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements 
  • Experience calculating material, labor, and production costs for custom projects 
  • Working knowledge of metal fabrication and manufacturing operations 
  • Experience evaluating supplier pricing and negotiating with vendors and customers 
  • Strong customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills 
  • Comfortable responding to customer inquiries, preparing quotations, and following projects through the sales process 
  • Ability to negotiate pricing and project scope while maintaining strong customer relationships 
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple estimates and priorities simultaneously 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams) 
  • Experience using Microsoft Project preferred 
  • Experience using HubSpot CRM is a strong plus 
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or related technical education preferred 
  • Familiarity with fabrication techniques, including welding, machining, and assembly, is beneficial 
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (MVR) and willingness to travel locally using a company vehicle 
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy, profitability, and customer satisfaction 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams
